Industries
Proven expertise in various industry segments
The Quantum Partners’ team has concrete and long-standing experience in the industries listed below. Our experience builds on transaction advisory, entrepreneurial activities, management positions we covered, as well as investment and advisory board activities.
Software & Business Services
- Enterprise applications
- Enterprise Resource Planning
- Business intelligence and customer analytics
- Design, PLM, project and portfolio management
- Vertical applications
- IT-consulting
- Network and storage
The Software and Business Services segment has grown steadily in recent years, with high transaction volumes and attractive valuations. The buyer spectrum is very heterogeneous, as players from adjacent industries as well as hardware companies need to complement their software expertise.
Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, and Internet of Things (IoT) continue to advance. Strong competition and high technological demands are driving a consolidation process that will accelerate further in the coming years.
Our network in the Software & Business Services segment is very wide. Through our contacts we have already been able to support many transactions in this segment, e.g. the sale of a leading provider of process optimization software for the semiconductor industry to KLA, the sale of a leading German call center operator to Xerox, the follow-up financing of European Games Group, and many more.
Digital Media & Commerce
- Data and analytics
- Digital media
- Digital commerce
- Marketing application software
- Digital agencies and marketing services
- Social networks
- Online / mobile gaming
The Digital Media and Commerce sector has been one of the most important drivers of innovation in recent decades. New technologies and digital services have changed industry paradigms, forcing businesses to evolve at a faster pace and posing challenges for established players.
Competition in this area is mainly driven by US companies. Large international digital corporates and well-financed start-ups have sufficient capital to directly attack traditional companies.
As advisors, we have supported the development and sale of several e-commerce companies, e.g. Tennis-Point, BuyVIP and DocMorris, to renowned corporates (Signa Holding, Amazon and Celesio). Thanks to our wide network in the digital sector, we were recently able to match the international agency Labelium with the German digital agency Klickkonzept.
Industrial Technology
- Sensor technology and automation
- Engineering services
- Mechanical and plant engineering
- Semiconductor equipment
- Polymer Electronics
- Electric mobility
- Fuel cells / battery systems
Many companies in these industries face the challenge of innovating their business models. Established players are increasingly relying on mergers and acquisitions to expand technological competencies and to keep up with increasing digitalization.
Our experience in industrial technology is very diverse and builds on years of cooperation with companies of all sizes. Among other things, we have supported the sales process of a mechanical equipment manufacturer to Tetra Laval, assisted several financing rounds of leading fuel cell supplier SFC Energy through to its IPO, and advised on the sale of SOPAT, a specialist provider of particle measurement technology, to a strategic partner.
CleanTech & Sustainability
- Renewable energies
- Energy storage
- Green foodtech
- Decarbonisation
- Alternative powertrains
- Circular economy
The increasingly apparent consequences of climate change are putting greater pressure on policymakers and industry to take effectively counteract this development. The demand for innovative technologies is correspondingly high, whether in the area of energy generation, energy storage, new types of food or resource-saving design of industrial processes.
In many cases, the establishment of companies in the “CleanTech and Sustainability” sector is very capital-intensive and long-term in nature. Although the segment has increasingly moved into the focus of the capital markets, financing the often hardware-heavy business models remains challenging.
Quantum Partners team builds on broad and longstanding experience in the segment, including activities as seed investor, advisory board member and various management positions. Most recently, we successfully advised the Munich-based battery startup VoltStorage on the closing of a EUR 24m financing round by strategic investor Cummins Inc.
